Sorry if you clicked this hoping for some kind of meme or jab at Jagex, that's not what I'm hoping to discuss today. Instead I'm wanting to take an objective look at all the drama that's been happening recently in terms of each of the subjects in the title and just exactly what it means as opposed to what many on the subreddit seem to think it means. First of all, the elephant in the room. MTX. It's no secret that the drama kicked off because of a recent TH promo coupled with an article published by the BBC surrounding Jagex's recent dealings with the UK Parliament. The subject of the investigation was in regards to loot boxes being regulated in a similar manner to gambling and what should be done regarding children. The point I see a lot of people missing is that is dealing with two different aspects, one being addiction and the other being the impact on children. In terms of addiction, the inquiry done was targeted towards young adults that have built up a significant debt due to spending in games. This means it was aimed at 18-30 year olds since 18 is when you can legally "be in debt" in the eyes of the UK law. The MP from the committee would go on to link this back to being potential harm for children because he could equate loot boxes to being a game of chance, ergo gambling, and being addictive in the same vein with the challenge to the government to essentially "prove him wrong". On paper, he's not wrong about loot boxes being addictive and an issue for problem gamblers but where he could run into problems is when he's bringing children into the equation. His only link from what can be seen is that it's addictive but he never outlined what the potential harm to children themselves could be that's explicit to the addiction of loot boxes. I mention this because of the problem aspect of loot boxes comes from being able to buy them with real currency which in a digital age means a few things, gift cards or debit/credit cards. This point becomes important because it addresses their accessiblity for minors to begin with and who is responsible for it. The most likely way minors will be purchasing loot boxes is through gift cards or their parent/guardian doing it for them, I know there's stories of kids buying stuff just because payment details were linked and they did it without permission or knowing what they were doing is wrong which frankly, is a parental responsibility to stop them doing it if they're not allowed to, so for the sake of this we will assume everything is ok with child and responsible adult to do this. I know a lot of people will say just to ban loot boxes for children and all those problems are solved... but they're really not. As per above, the financial impact opportunity cannot be assessed the same way as it can for an adult because legally, minors cannot accumulate debt in their own name. They can do it in their parents/guardians name but this comes as a result of either poorly managed parenting or if for some reason, the parents don't care about it. The last thing I'll put forward in terms of talking about the impact on children is what gambling laws already say and how they can be paralleled with loot boxes. There's no minimum age required for some types of machines that are low stakes like coin pushers or teddy grabbers which is pretty much like loot boxes. An individual loot box is very much low stakes most of the time and the fact that you're guaranteed to "win" is actually a plus compared to these machines where you can end up with literally nothing to show for it. If these machines made it past the restrictions for gambling laws, so can loot boxes on the same premises of being low stakes. Now going back to addiction for adults, this is where we're likely to see any kind of movement because evidence has been shown that it can indeed be problematic if not managed properly. This is where the point cuts off since the ball was thrown to parliament to rebuttal however what is most likely to happen is companies will be required to address the possibility of addiction in the form of external help such as begambleaware which is required by online casinos to be shown. People that are saying Jagex are scared of the government because of this inquiry are jumping to conclusions but that's really nothing new. I'm not saying any of this because I'm some kind of apologist but because instead I'd rather hope to stop some of the obsession that is honestly more unhealthy than anything MTX can throw at us.

Newly supported arcade games include the rare video pinball game Tom Tom Magic, Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu EX ’98, and Keirin Ou. Newly supported computers include the TI-99/2, Dragon MSX-64, and BBC Master 512. This release brings graphics emulation improvements to a number of systems, including more fixes for Sega Saturn/ST-V, missing effects emulated in 1945k III, and improvements to the title screen in Wolf Fang. The SH-4 recompiler now supports more FPU opcodes directly, and NAOMI keyboards are supported. Low-level floppy drive emulation improvements bring improved compatibility for Apple II software. Newly supported peripherals include a PC ISA LBA BIOS card, the Beeb Speech Synthesiser, and a number of BBC Micro pointing devices. Other additions include new Tiger handhelds (Batman: The Animated Series, Operation: Aliens, Wayne’s World, and X-Men), the Fidelity Elegance and Prestige chess computers, and alternate versions of Battle Balls, Centipede, Final Fight, Karate Blazers, Last Mission, Real Puncher, Sengoku 3, Spy Hunter, and World Heroes 2. There are lots of additions to the Apple II cassette software list, and several additions to the Sorcerer cassette software list as well. MAME now supports Korean user interface thanks to a contribution from Neius. For developers, we’ve fixed some issues in the debugger affecting CPUs that use word addressing, and the source list is sorted more intuitively in memory windows. We’ve made a number of changes to how machine configuration works to make driver development more intuitive and less error-prone. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, so please point me in the right direction if anyone knows. I have a section of my gaming room that I'd really like to fill with 4-5 slot machines, and possibly pachinko and coin pusher machines. One of the games I'm interested in is the Bally game American Original. I used to play this game often, but it's no longer available at many casinos as far as I can tell. I see places online to buy it, but I'm not 100% sure what extras I'd need. I see that they come with a bill validator and that they're compatible with certain printers. I'd prefer that the slot machine could take and pay out in coins or tokens, rather than printing tickets. I'd also be interested in classics like Cleopatra, Texas Tea, possibly DaVinci Diamonds, Frog Princess, Enchanted Unicorn. Finally, the last game I'm having trouble finding at all is Red Hot 777's with the Spitfire Multiplier feature. I'm not looking to gamble with any of these, they'd just be for my own enjoyment. I'd like them to pay out coins or tokens because that's what slot machines did when I was younger. If anyone has any idea where I could start looking, please let me know. I should note that I've contacted the people at the websites where these games are to be found, and the people seem unwilling to discuss anything regarding paying out coins or tokens. I've thought about it and I don't believe what I'm trying to do will have the right feel if the machine is not paying out coins. I appreciate any help that anyone is willing to give.
This is a weird question, but I was at D&B today using a coupon and overheard a conversation. A couple of grandpas were with their grandkids and one of them mentioned enjoying the coin pushers because it reminded him of slot machines. I never thought of that connection before, but do you see similarities in trying to win tickets/playing to win money in a casino?
The Pants (2-parter) The gang is dragged to a racino (casino/racetrack) in upstate New York by Kramer to bet on a major race. Kramer claims to be friends with the owner and "in-the-know" about the outcome. George becomes quickly addicted to a seldom-used “coin pusher” machine and feverishly guards it, trying to win a few $20 bills from the machine. Meanwhile Kramer and Elaine to pose as a married couple to bring good luck. Elaine reluctant to have to even gone to the track in the first place gets plastered and mocks the jockeys. Jerry meanwhile is coyly trying to get a date with an attractive blackjack dealer while oblivious to the fact that she is helping him win big. Back to George who is now perspiring heavily and has just blown through most of his money. A big pile of coins and prizes is about to fall when the last quarter won’t go down the chute. Fed up with the prospect of losing to such a “simple game”, he repeatedly kicks the machine in hopes of dislodging the prizes. He sets off an alarm and quickly runs away to find Jerry. George spots a chip on the floor, he squats down to pick it up…when the front of his pants rip open. Jerry watches from afar and is puzzled by George’s bizarre expressions. He then stoically walks backwards while Jerry tries to signal him. He then hides in a bathroom stall and happens to catch Kramer looking for tickets in the trash. Kramer is curious about George’s predicament and the “coin pusher”, the two hatch a plan to get their “fair share” of money from the casino. Elaine finds Jerry and hits on him, making the dealer think they’re an item…she leaves the table. Jerry decides he’s had enough excitement for one day, then tries to find the others. George is stuck in the bathroom griping about his ripped pants while Kramer attempts to reach the coin machine, which is being serviced. He chats up the mechanic and finds out his “manager friend” told several rubes about the false “outcome” in order to boost business. Outraged Kramer tells George to create a distraction; he runs out shouting about a race ticket and tears his pants even further. Kramer steals a large bucket of coins and splits to the cash-in before anyone notices. Jerry too is at the cash-in and asks what happened to George when he rushes by with an entire pant leg torn apart. Kramer and Jerry cash-out and Kramer is astonished by how much Jerry made. Kramer: You usually just break even! George is tackled by security and hauled outside, he makes a ruckus and lets it slip that the broken machine was his fault. The manager comes out and Kramer whispers he knows about the scam and bargains for money. The gang heads to the car and see Elaine riding by on a horse…Seinfeld theme kicks in as credits roll The Pizza Chase An out-of-town relative has to shack up with Jerry for awhile and orders pizza, being old & senile causes them to forget that pizzas can be delivered. The relative leaves to pick up the pie. Jerry comes back to find an angry note and pizza splattered on his door, Kramer is eating what didn't come out of the box..."it's free pizza!" Said relative gets lost going back to Jerry's after ordering yet another pizza and hauls it across NY. Jerry is worried that the "rogue deliveryman" will strike again and wonders where his relative is. The relative is later found in Central Park due to him remembering Jerry cracking jokes about the "horse faced parks officer" (Cousin Jeffery). These plots are loosely based on real experiences from my life. I really did rip my pants open from kicking a coin machine and an elderly relative walked two miles to pick up pizza.
I noticed something interesting when I stopped by my D&B last week. The ticket payouts on Deep Sea Treasure were lowered significantly. The highest paying fishes used to pay out 40 and 50 tickets, now ther are only 12 and 15 tickets. Whenever people play, they always shoot out the coins as fast as possible, not trying to hit the targets one coin at a time, but simply trying to knock over as many coins as possible. You would probably win more from trying to hit the 40 and 50 ticket fishes (like how the game used to be), instead of rapidly shooting coins without aiming. I know the game isn't APable, but it seems popular enough that a lot of tickets will pay out even if people are technically losing money while playing. This forum discusses a lot of AP strategies and figuring our how to beat the games which I really enjoy reading about. But does D&B have a habit of lowering ticket payouts even on machines that make a profit simply because it gets played too much? I would think it's better for them to let people play with the higher payouts since they would see how much they are winning and continue to swipe in credits even though they are casual players? Wouldn't lowering tickets on these popular games have a worse effect than letting people play through? Conversely, some of the less popular coin pushers (Casino Roulette, NASCAR) have been made easier from having more coins layered on top of each other, resulting in more falling over and more tickets coming out.
