"I think I've lived long enough to see competitive Counter-Strike as we know it, kill itself." Summary of Richard Lewis' stream (Long)

I want to preface that the contents of this post is for informational purposes. I do not condone or approve of any harassments or witch-hunting or the attacking of anybody.

Richard Lewis recently did a stream talking about the terrible state of CS esports and I thought it was an important stream anyone who cares about the CS community should listen to.
Vod Link here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/830415547
I realize it is 3 hours long so I took it upon myself to create a list of interesting points from the stream so you don't have to listen to the whole thing, although I still encourage you to do so if you can.
I know this post is still long but probably easier to digest, especially in parts.
Here is a link to my raw notes if you for some reason want to read through this which includes some omitted stuff. It's in chronological order of things said in the stream and has some time stamps. https://pastebin.com/6QWTLr8T

Intro

CSPPA - Counter-Strike Professional Players' Association

"Who does this union really fucking serve?"

ESIC - Esports Integrity Commission

"They have been put in an impossible position."

Stream Sniping

"They're all at it in the online era, they're all at it, they're all cheating, they're all using exploits, probably that see through smoke bug got used a bunch of times"

Match Fixing

"How many years have we let our scene be fucking pillaged by these greedy cunts?" "We just let it happen."

North America

"Everyone in NA has left we've lost a continents worth of support during this pandemic and Valve haven't said a fucking word."

Talent

"TO's have treated CS talent like absolute human garbage for years now."

Valve

"Anything that Riot does, is better than Valve's inaction"

Closing Statements

"We've peaked. If we want to sustain and exist, now is the time to figure it out. No esports lasts as long as this, we've already done 8 years. We've already broke the records. We have got to figure out a way to coexist and drive the negative forces out and we need to do it as a collective and we're not doing that."

Online Gambling World As Players See It

It is important to learn where 먹튀검증is in a very commercial world today. This is not an easy discussion and will require us to spend time and effort if we want to seek enlightenment on this problem. But this knowledge is relevant for beginners, players, and casinos themselves. For example, this information can give you gambling perceptions, not only in the country but throughout the world. Statistics can give you information about the kind of addiction owned by the casino and the overall gambling behavior of the population. If you are an online gambler who is interested, you must make you updated to the latest news.
See a general description of online gambling realms
At this time, gamblers throughout the world are confused by the approval of the enforcement of the enforcement of the Internet gambling (Uigea), which forbid Americans from gambling games online and which seems to be the most urgent problem regarding public public. However, bills only target American citizens and US gambling and casino markets. But the implications of this law spread globally. One important effect is Strasehy higher in money transfer procedures and banking options on the gambling site. It began in 2007 even though in a way that was unclear and confusing. The result is the closure of online gambling sites as a result of a reduction in shares caused by the market which is reduced when the US forbids its people to join online gambling. Gambling sites outside the United States also prohibit the registration of US players. Indeed, the Uigea effect travels beyond America's boundaries, affecting the gambling industry throughout the world, damaging more casino sites than they should.
Gambling on the internet
So, you might want to check how prosperous games in other countries continue the gambling tradition. The American gambler is not completely prohibited from joining the gambling site and it must be clear. Some countries still allow people to gamble despite the presence of Uigea, which is not fully implemented throughout the country. More countries around the world promote casinos to compensate the terrible decline in the US casino market. These countries include Barbuda and Antigua in the Caribbean, where online gambling has long been successful and developed. Caribbean has some of the best licensed online casinos that booms because of low taxes and fast transactions. Of course, regardless of this Caribbean country, there are more countries that allow online gambling and online casinos to operate, such as France, Australia, South Korea and Germany. These countries have long seen economic benefits supporting this kind of market.
Gambling Future
The stability of land-based casinos is the subject of a sustainable debate. There is a lot of discussion about real economic benefits to promote casinos and let them develop on the commercial arena. There are also arguments about the pros and cons have them around and whether the benefits are greater than losses or vice versa. Even so, experts believe that online gambling and Roulette will definitely be for a while and that this industry remains prosperous, whatever happens.

WHAT HAS SPORTS, LOTTERY AND CASINO GAMBLING DONE FOR YOU?

When we speak of casino gambling in Australia, we’re usually talking about new live or online pokies, fortuitous wins, or the dreaded affliction of problem gambling. That last topic has been abundantly proliferated by today’s leading politicians and anti-wagering groups. But have you ever ever stopped to ask yourself: What has gambling for you?

There’s a powerful message that gambling is bad. It’s a degenerative activity that causes nothing quite pain and suffering. this is often what anti-pokies campaigns are sputtering in radio and tv ads – that nothing good can come of it.

In reality, much good has come of it. The Australian government didn’t legalize lotteries because it thought the overall public needed a replacement sort of entertainment. It didn’t employ companies like Tabcorp and Tatts to officiate racing and sports betting because legislators had an excessive amount of time on their hands.

These gambling activities were authorized to assist raise money to enhance local communities.

What Australia Casino Gambling Does For You
Were you aware that the taxes our government collects from gambling operators are wont to ensure every child is provided a free and honorable education? Did you recognize that Australia uses the cash it collects from lottery sales to send promising athletes to free training camps, where they will excel into professional, tournament-worthy competitors?

While anti-gambling campaigners are busy spitting out problem gambling statistics, the sports, lottery and casino gambling industry is doing little or no to defend itself. likelihood is that , an informed public – one that's made conscious of all the items those taxed wagering dollars do for them – wouldn’t be so easily swayed to side with the Nick Xenophon Team (NXT) of anti-pokies politicians.

Transition To Sustainability Messages
Hannah Harrison, SABMillerHannah Harrison is that the Senior Manager of worldwide Sustainable Development Strategy and Consumer Brands, otherwise referred to as SABMiller. She is of the firm belief that gambling operators should take a page from the book of the beer industry when it involves public messages in sustainability.

“I really think it's interesting once you check out beer brands. you'll not think beer as being a very ethical product, but actually you'll use sustainability messages to bring a beer’s purpose to life,” said Harrison in an interview with nzpokiesonline.com/

“Purpose are some things that's here to remain ,” continued Harrison, especially when it involves things people care about. She explained that brands can improve their sale volume compared to competitors by letting consumers know “they are buying a product that resonates their own personal values…”

Her company played a key role in Uganda creating a sustainable source of income through harvesting Sorghum, a crop that they were ready to become a beer product. Not only did it bring down the value of beer, the govt was compelled to supply harvesters a tax benefit since it had been ready to sell the beer at lower cost. it had been clearly a win-win situation.

How does this have anything to try to to with Australia casino gambling, and therefore the benefits it brings to the people? Harrison explained:

“We were competing not with the prevailing beer but with the elicit alcohol market, attracting people out of the damaging and unregulated, illegal alcohol market. So, we are making beers safer for consumer, creating new revenue for our business and creating money for the govt also , which have increased their tax income for over 50 percent since 2002.”

She went on to explain a huge opportunity for Australia’s casino gambling market to tap into unique product and repair concepts which will inevitably appeal to consumers, just by invoking the facility sustainable messages.

My Personal Market Research & Statistics in 2020: Countries That Gamble the Most

My Personal Market Research & Statistics in 2020: Countries That Gamble the Most
The gaming sphere is so different and immense that it is divided into many structures and substructures. For example, games can be divided according to their type, capabilities, gambling, devices, technology, etc. But what is more remarkable is the appearance of statistics in games, when you can see and understand many nuances with your own eyes. So, let's talk about gambling research and statistics in 2020.
Throughout its existence, gambling has been constantly subjected to various pressures from the law, states, and opponents of this activity. And the first step is to talk about the most important thing in the gaming industry, namely, legality.
There are several countries where gambling is allowed. This business is closely monitored by special authorities, subjecting the gambling activities of companies to various frameworks and rules. On the one hand, some laws can be very depressing, but compliance with them allows companies to legally and transparently offer their content to the consumer - and as a result of legality and licensing, the company ensures safety for the user and gains trust from him. There are also countries and their areas where games are partially allowed or have more severe rules.

The main countries where you can gamble are:
  • Australia;
  • The United States;
  • Canada;
  • New Zealand;
  • The UK;
  • China (Macau).
But it is highly recommended to check the legality of gambling for money in your area, the rules and laws change quite often. Often online casinos have a separate page where you can check this.

The most popular gambling games in the world are casino games (mainly slot machines and roulette), sports betting (mainly horse racing), and poker. It's also easy to see the big difference between playing ages between the United States and the UK. In the first country, young people play more, as in the second, those who are over 55 years old. This may be due to many factors, at least mentality and freedom of choice. Note that the world's most famous gambling capital Macau wins in terms of income per visitor, and the biggest losers are in Australia.

Australia
More than 6.8 million Australians are considered to be players who play in the country - this is approximately 39% of the total population. Australian people love to play, most of them love to gamble on portable devices that they can take with them, such as a mobile phone or tablet.
78% of players are able-bodied adults 18 years of age or older, and the average playing age is 34. Women and men play equally in the same amount, that is, 50/50, although earlier women players were 4% less than men.
Australians play pokies mostly for fun, and some older people play to train their thinking and improve their brain function. Residents are not against betting and consider them very useful for the economy and development of the country.

USA
As you know, the most common place for gambling in the United States is Las Vegas, but do not forget about Atlantic City and the water casinos, which are legalized in Louisiana and Illinois. Online betting is available for almost all states. Almost 65% of the entire adult population of the country, one way or another, play games, mainly on their smartphones.
More than $ 80 billion is the total value of the gambling industry in the country. Most of the people who play are mostly in the 18 to 30 years old area. 15% of all residents of the country play at least once a week. Mostly preferences are for online casinos, but many players love old school and play in land-based casinos. Americans love big win and impressive jackpots, especially progressive ones, which can easily reach up to $ 20 million.

UK
In the United Kingdom, more than 46% of the country's population gamble and at least several times a month. Players prefer different strategies for their pastime and use handheld devices, but there are also a large proportion of those who still prefer a computer for their gaming sessions.
The older generation plays more in the country. These are able-bodied adults who are 55 years old and older. Most likely this is due to a large amount of free time and the possession of significant finances, which can be easily used in online casinos. Players prefer online casinos 10 times more than in other countries, but there are still more than 250 land-based casinos in the country. To a large extent, the British know how to play to win significant sums. They use the strategy of maximum possible bets on the same game regularly.

Canada
More than half of the Canadian population gamble and their percentage is growing every year along with the development of online casinos and the availability of gaming content. The biggest number of residents of the country prefer casual games, they quickly learn how to play in various slots, which also increases the number of new players at lightning speed. Also, Canadians like to use different tips for choosing a game or strategy, for example, such as the one here https://freeslotshub.com/offline-slots/
78% of the country's online gamblers are male, and the average age hovers 35 and a half, although almost a decade ago, he was with the index 45 years. The legal age for gambling in Canada varies from province to province, some from 18 and others from 19. The average annual spending per average Canadian on betting is over $ 17 billion, and every year the figure is growing by about 5%.

Other Countries that Gamble
Various forms of the gambling industry are legal and regulated in many places: in the countries of the European Union, Asia, and countries around the Caribbean, but they have much stronger control and rules from the state.
  • 44% of Singaporeans aged 18 and overplay.
  • Almost every 9th German player.
  • More than 31.5 million visitors to Macau per year.
  • Spain registers about 3.9 million new players every year.
  • Japanese gamblers spend over $ 31 billion in casinos annually.

World statistics easily show that approximately 26% of the world's population regularly gamble and more than 17% of them play online.
The gambling industry is growing and thriving, over time the income of companies that are involved in the gaming industry will grow at lightning speed. To some extent, the development of technologies provokes this growth, because experienced players have simple and convenient access to gaming content, and new ones have the opportunity to try content for free without any risk of losing real money.

The Miguel Cotto vs Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez Viewing Guide

Introduction

Boxing is a cruel sport that doesn’t afford it’s participants second chances. A rundown of the list of opponents who have faced both Miguel Cotto and Saul Alvarez is littered with men who had their opportunity, and on the biggest stage of their careers, failed. Most will exist in boxing’s history as trivia, nothing more.
Miguel Cotto is the rare fighter who has risen from the canvas to have a second and third chance. Cotto has reinvented himself multiple times, and with each new fight he looks more youthful and happier with his journey.
Meanwhile, Saul Alvarez, now mostly Canelo, continues to blaze his path taking on all comers, young or old, rejuvenated or timeworn, on his quest for greatness.
Miguel Cotto, enlivened by the fountain of youth provided by trainer Freddie Roach, attempts to add a new chapter to his Hall of Fame career. All that stands in his way is a red-haired kid hellbent on forging a legacy.

Bio

Miguel Cotto
Miguel Cotto was seen as a boxing prodigy as early as age 16. Raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico, a young Miguel Cotto represented Puerto Rico in various world amateur events around the world. At 20-years-old he went to Sydney for the 200 Olympic games. He lost early, but few thought anything of it. Miguel Cotto already had his attention on fighting for money and Top Rank saw the potential for another Puerto Rican megastar in the sport. Cotto was signed and was quickly placed him on the fast track to stardom.
Saul Alvarez
Saul Alvarez got his name from the red hair and freckles that distinguish him from most of his Mexican brethren. Canelo’s background is mostly what you’d expect from a young phenom who captured a world title as young as he did. He learned on the job fighting the cartel in bars as a teenager… or maybe he had 50 undocumented amateur fights before turning pro. Neither has been proven as fact to date. His path to stardom seemed destined as people followed him around to watch him fight from a young age. By the time he was brought to America by Golden Boy, he was already a star in Mexico. His doorway into super stardom is Miguel Cotto.
The Fight
What we know about Canelo is that he’s a young fighter willing to face anyone. The bigger the name, the better. This fight came to fruition not from Canelo’s willingness, although that helped, but rather because it fit Miguel Cotto’s masterplan.
After Miguel Cotto lost to Floyd Mayweather in 2012, he knew that there was still something left for him. He knew that the reason he lost wasn’t that he wasn’t the same Miguel Cotto who captured titles in multiple weight classes. Cotto could see, just like with the Pacquiao fight, that this time he’d simply faced a better man. He took what he’d learned in the Mayweather fight and tried to apply it immediately against Austin Trout. Trout took all of what Miguel Cotto attempted to do and threw it right back in his face. Cotto lost in a disappointing performance and now had to reconsider his career and future in the sport.
Here’s where he lays out a masterplan and the biggest gamble of his career.
Cotto first fired renowned Cuban trainer Pedro Diaz and announced he’d sought the help of a man who once crafted a gameplan that broke Cotto apart piece-by-piece. He hired a new trainer in Freddie Roach and set his sights on taking multiple risks that could have paid off huge dividends if everything fell right. Canelo was out there calling Cotto’s name in what was a lucrative fight already, but Cotto knew it was a short-sighted move. Cotto was looking to maximize his earnings as a fighter in the short amount of time he had left to provide the greatest financial benefit he could get for his family. Here was his plan:
Move to middleweight. Moving would only be on paper as Cotto knew he had the leverage with everyone from 147 to 160 not named Manny or Floyd. The first plan of action was to sign a fight with Delvin Rodriguez. An explosive knockout win would be attainable and it’d plant the seed of Cotto being more explosive than ever. Power intoxicates fans and media, and creates delusions of grandeur. The plan worked. Again, Canelo’s name came up.
This was not part of the gamble though. Canelo, with his youth and following, would always be there to fight. Cotto could lose two fights in a row and people would still empty their pockets to watch Cotto face Canelo. Canelo would be left by the wayside.
The next plan of action was the riskiest of all in this endeavor. It was a fight with Sergio Martinez, the reigning middleweight king. If Sergio was as badly hurt as some whispered, it would be an easy win for Cotto. If he wasn’t, they would be in trouble. Sergio combined all of what Cotto had struggled with in the past. He was a southpaw with heavy hands, he was agile, able to move and pressure at will. There was a very low probability that a fresh Sergio would show up on fight night. Again, it all worked out for Cotto and he took an easy stoppage win over a hobbling Martinez.
The next step was masterstroke. It was the move that would have had people raving about Cotto’s guile. With the middleweight title around his waist, he figured this would be enough to entice Floyd Mayweather to give Cotto a rematch in what would have been a massive pay-per-view extravaganza. It would have been the fight Mayweather tied Marciano’s 49-0 record. There was only one opponent Cotto had to watch out for, but he, like all of us, figured that it would never happen. It was only one fight that could have trumped the potential Mayweather-Cotto II fight.
With Mayweather choosing the holy grail fight over a rematch with Miguel Cotto, it left Cotto to try another plan. He knew that even if he’d lost to Mayweather, he still had Canelo. He chose Daniel Geale instead, another risky opponent that was forced down in weight to reduce much of what could have made Geale a dangerous fight. Cotto easily won, again by knockout, and it gave him all the leverage he needed to negotiate with Canelo.

Here are a few reviews of what it’s like to watch a fight in a theater.
“An enormous screen and amazing sound make it a must-see. If you have skin in the game (money on the line, or you're a Mayweather or Maidana fanboy), you'll likely get annoyed by people cheering against you. If you just want to have a good time with a fired up crowd, then go for it.”
“I went for Mayweather-Canelo. It was pretty rowdy, considering the normal theater atmosphere. People yell shit out, lots of cheering, lots of shit-talking sent into the darkness (which was awkward because of the kids there), but it's still pretty fun.”
“The whole experience was pretty awesome, really. Huge screen with high quality, great audio, and a comfortable chair to sit in. Lots of knowledgeable boxing folks around (since most casual fans probably just go to a bar, the theater crowd seemed like more dedicated boxing enthusiasts), so the place was full even for the undercards.”

Trivia

Miguel Cotto headlined the first fight in Yankee Stadium since Muhammad Ali fought Ken Norton there in 1976.
Canelo has an exclusive sponsorship deal with Under Armour. He also designs some of his ring gear.
When Cotto fought Shane Mosley, it was a joint Golden Boy and Top Rank promoted card. This was back in 2007. Soon the two sides would turn their backs and refuse to work together for several years.
Neither fighter is a stranger to the law. Charges were pressed against Canelo after he got into an altercation with light flyweight contender Ulises Solis. The 108 pound fighter claimed that Canelo was the one who started it and broke his jaw and tooth. Canelo was never arrested for this.
In 2009, Cotto broke his arm when he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his car.
Due to poor record keeping, Canelo’s team alleges that he has 10 more professional wins that have never been recorded.
Miguel Cotto negotiated with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s camp after he’d beaten Yuri Foreman. It would have been a megafight in Madison Square Garden, but unfortunately it never came to fruition.
When Canelo faced Carlos Baldomir at a 151 pound catchweight and Baldomir failed to make weight, Canelo refused to accept the penalty money.
Miguel Cotto has faced 3 opponents as both an amateur and professional. Mohamed Abdulaev eliminated Cotto at the 2000 Olympic games, however Cotto would get revenge when he stopped him in 9 rounds as a pro.
Miguel Vazquez, former lightweight title holder, made his debut against Canelo and nearly beat him.
Both Floyd Mayweather and Paulie Malignaggi have regarded Miguel Cotto as the hardest punchers they’ve ever faced. Malignaggi sustained a fractured orbital bone, a cut above his right eye, and a jaw injury in his fight with Cotto.
As a teenager, Canelo was drawing NFL TV ratings in Mexico.
Cotto has never come out and explicitly stated why he split from his former trainer and uncle Evangelista Cotto. One explanation that Cotto has given was that Evangelista preferred to train in Puerto Rico with the rest of his stable. Cotto preferred to train at home in Florida to be close to his family and away from distractions. The other piece, which Cotto hasn’t said, is that he blamed Evangelista for his loss to Antonio Margarito. Evangelista remarked pre-fight that he didn’t need to check Margarito’s hand wraps. Those hand wraps, Cotto believes, contained an illegal substance that put his health in jeopardy. The two had rumored physical altercation in 2009 that resulted in Cotto’s car getting a window smashed. No one has confirmed that it was Evangelista, but things are suspicious.
Golden Boy had planned to match Canelo against Juan Manuel Marquez in 2011. They planned to invoke a clause they had on Marquez’s contract that said if he left them, they could match whatever was being offered and keep him. Top Rank guaranteed Marquez $5 million dollars and Golden Boy said bye.
Cotto brought in Emanuel Steward after firing inexperienced Joe Santiago. Steward tried to fix Cotto’s balance and footwork, but only worked with him for 2 fights. (Foreman and Mayorga)
Miguel Cotto ruptured Manny Pacquiao’s ear drum.

6b Stolen on Runebet by player named after 52 prayer

After approximately 3 months playing on this very well known gambling hosts online poker website "runebet.com" cashing in and out billions of gold and amassing quite a large amount of profit as a semi professional poker player; (probably somewhere in the region of 15-20b)
(https://www.pocketfives.com/profiles/Benjicleo/) (https://www.sharkscope.com/#Player-Statistics//networks/PokerStars/players/benjicleo)
I referred the website to my irl best friend who also plays poker professionally. Now as online poker has recently been banned in Australia this seemed like a good opportunity to play poker for something that was actually worth more than playchips on zynga or facebook. the games where soft, the cashout process was decent (although at times it did take a while) and the software was decent.
During a small session this morning i was booted offline mid hand and to my surprise had recieved an IP ban! i private messaged the site owner who proceeded to tell me that me and my irl friends account had been playing from the same IP address and been colluding, now not only is this impossible because you cannot log into two accounts at the same time, but when i had logged out of my account in the past to try and transfer gold from account to account it wont even allow me to LOG IN for 30-60 minutes due to using a different account from the same IP address let alone have them both logged in at the same time to use together.
I asked the site owner what proof he had of this accused cheating as this was an absurd accusation to make about somebody who has been a poker player for years and plays 5+ times a week at the casino in sydney, tracking sessions and is a long term winning player that i would need to cheat to win runescape gold. The proof i was sent was a screenshot of me and my friend playing at the same table from DIFFERENT houses. Is this against the rules? ofcourse not! games rarely ran higher than $100 so when one did run i would call up my friend and tell him there was action at $200 or $400 tables and we would both play. I won pots from him, he won pots from me i made tight folds to him and he made tight folds to me.
I often used his account when the cashier had no stock to cash out (which was very often) and a good game was running and i was out of funds on my account, This also is not against runebets rules or TOS. Let me be clear when i say i have NEVER used both accounts at once nor have we ever even played in the same house let alone the same room together. runebet poker is also inaccessible on mobile which rules out the possibility of colluding on mobile while at each others house.
long story the site owner banned my friends account while i was using it with MY 6b osrsgp on it and has blocked me and kicked me from the runebet discord making it unable for me to get in contact with him, i have started taking legal action but am not sure how far it will go as rsgp has no theoretical real world value, I am making this post as a very frequent user of the website and as a warning to those who are thinking of gambling there.
EDIT: games have been rake free for months (rake is a percentage the casino takes from the pots because you play against other players and not the house, this is where their profit comes from) in the last week or so rake has been added to the games without warning as i presume the owner was running out of money and that is the real reason he has scammed me as one of the biggest winners on his site, because he is broke.

newbie lurker - some BTC impressions from the non-initiated

Disclaimer: Work in computer field, wanted to take a look at BTC as an investment, or mining it. It was a bit hard to get things going (considering I'm not a PC user newbie or something) and because I came in late, it was disappointing to realise mining without ASICs etc is essentially pointless, unless I mine an altcoin via CPU or GPU (mostly pointless), or perhaps take a chance on a less-adopted purchase like eth. I get it of course though, cheap power, early adoption, increasing difficulty, limited coins. I tried to read up anyway..
recently, I guess the drama with Craig Wright drew me in (I mean, it's quite the tale/effort) - to see what the latest state of things were. I was considering buying some BTC now its come down from the maximum height it was at. I've also been seriously considering buying a chunk of Litecoin, given it mirrors BTC value movements and has a higher quantity (though I worry about its adoption and always being seen as second-rate to BTC perhaps?)
All that said, I just wanted to share some first impressions, from someone coming from Fiat to BTC and trying to make it feel OK. Don't burn me and I know some are invalid...it's just me communicating an initial perception.
  1. The personalities and the basic infighting over the protocol(s). This has the potential to cause loss of value to the currency. This doesn't appear to be resolving. What am I to think? 2Mb blocks, soon?
  2. The delays and problems with the network transaction rate. I want to know I can send the BTC reliably, easily, between wallets or accounts etc. I don't know that right now. The horror stories of no confirmations, stuck transactions (incorrectly calculated fees), and various other extensive delays, are horrifying to someone like myself who doesn't have a fortune to invest (/lose/get stuck in limbo)
  3. Exchange credibility. again let me explain... If a bank exists in Australia it has to meet a lot of regulatory requirements, including guaranteeing customer deposits, holding insurance of various forms, not over-leveraging, etc. This means that the number of actual banks that fail (and result in all customers losing all funds) is miniscule. Mt Gox is hardly an isolated incident. In 2 weeks I've found literally - 20+ current issues happening, from people waiting extended periods of time to cash out from BTC to USD, or BTC to AUD, to $79 just going missing from an exchange account (explanation was bank charges when moving the converted fiat value around). Total loss of access to coins (stolen, shutdown, run). While this might statistically be 'rare' (compared to # of users), the severity when it happens is very high.
  4. As a value store. OK great, if I bought big anywhere before what 2010, I'm rolling in money now, and if I bought big at just the wrong time, I'm only down 70%. In theory that's not bad, from a gambling/probability perspective. However - as a value store, this variability is terrifying. I can put $1million into USD or AUD in a government-guaranteed savings account and feel very safe that this money will retain on the high side of 90% of its value or increase perhaps 5-10% value. The risk of total loss is near-zero. This gives me the comfort level needed to store real value in this way. BTC moving between $350 - $850 wildly with no apparent definitive reason (it's not like a stock where a company has made an announcement and rises rapidly/retains most afterwards), causes me to not want to use it as a store of value. The loss possibility is too high, the stress from experiencing the variance is too high.
  5. The Numeracy of it. $100 sounds nice, it's 100 of something right? $1 sounds OK, it's at least a whole number. It's quite obvious $1,000 is starting to become a lot, and $1,000,000 even more so. This is the reason that when you see a very devalued currency, it seems laughable. Like paying 36,721,941.06 bellarussian rubles per month in rent, doesn't seem 'right' to most people. Because we're used to the metric system. Bitcoin has a problem here for 'everyday' usage. Devs/enthusiasts wildly proclaim No! What! It's just 0.01 BTC! you can divide it up to 100,000 times (or whatever the resolution really is). BTC will reach $35,000 per coin! OK if it does. The problem's worse. 1BTC means I will spend for example, 0.0013428 BTC on petrol today. Does that really sound reasonable to you? I don't think society is quite at the point yet where it's like Black Mirror and we have a huge number of 'credits' on our screen. Even then, I'd want to see the decimal point somewhere else. Working for 3.5BTC per year for example, is not a nice sounding thing. OK sure you say, let's make another unit. Call it... mBTC. It will be 1,000th of a BTC. So in the future when BTC is $35,000 USD, one mBTC will be $3.50(USD equiv). The USD will inflate, more than BTC, since BTC is not inflationary. This potential increase in Bitcoin's value (some argue, increasing forever) means the required Unit for small daily purchases continues to change. mBTC will work for $35k BTC's but it won't work for $350k BTCs.
  6. I'm confused about the security. It's one thing to have a hash-based peer to peer system with an effective crypto scheme - but when the end user of this system, is subject to processes and systems that are by nature difficult to understand, this makes them prone to human-induced insecurity. A little like a highly-complex password policy on a network that results in users handwriting their password on a post-it note. Also at first I thought...Paper wallets (so I'm just printing my keys now? how the heck is that secure unless I lock it up in a safe? this is not security. Can anyone copy my keys and use them?). I don't need people to answer about how paper wallets work because I did end up reading up on it, I'm explaining my initial confusion and questions. Same went for electronic offline wallet systems, versus online wallets, versus exchanges that hold your coins, verus sending them to an offline computer. I mean really. If this was a commercial line of products the product manager would slap the developers and say STANDARDISE! how are you expecting people to seriously adopt this. Open platforms and software can (and should!) still create, drive, and adhere to standards.
Anyway, I digress, I still bought a small portion of some BTC (I mean..I'm not an IDIOT ;p). But - the things I went through - given I already know the general field quite well - and the thoughts, concerns, etc I had, do mean investing in this currency is going to be tough for a period of time that is perhaps longer than some of the estimates I see. I noticed its picking up a lot in the mainstream retail industry (places accepting BTC) which will help a lot. However the sorts of things listed above, do need to get sorted.
As an aside, not preaching here, but there's a reason most commercial companies don't allow their development teams to run the company, and I have to say these reasons are really showing through at the moment in the BTC arena. Just because as a group BTC supporters are generally anti-centralisation, doesn't mean you have to be anti-standards, or anti-organisation. Also to prevent unnecessary criticism and infighting, it's wise for there to be a common public image and an agreed upon set of standards, not this bickering, public infighting, dramatic stuff going on all the time.
Blockchains and their usage is stealing BTC's thunder a little lately too. I hope the BTC players can get things back on track a bit. The problems are making it all too easy for talented devs to go to Blockchain projects and leave the drama behind.
DISCLAIMER2: I apologise for misunderstanding, offensive comments, please don't steal my dog and burn my pet bird in retribution. Just throwing out there first impressions. I know I probably also misunderstand the 'security' of fiat and make many other potentially grave errors, but what I'm doing here, is communicating my first perceptions which I think will be shared by some, and unfortunately, for most people, perception=reality

Betting on the Blockchain

Betting on the Blockchain
Breaking news - 100% token only acquisition of a company that is the first of its kind. Playchip acquires 123gaming through an unprecedented zero cash acquisition, the acquisition marks the first time an unlisted token has been used as full payment in the acquisition of a US-registered business.
Those who are fans of e-sports and online betting might be happy to know there is now a universal token for a diverse and growing ecosystem. Like most things in the cryptosphere, attempts to disrupt industries are happening fast, although this story began in 2014.PlayUp is a gaming company turned prominent player in the multi-billion-dollar fantasy sports market, and currently with an annual turnover of more than $430 million in 2018. They have made great strides with their online betting token PlayChip: a universal token for e-sports, gaming, fantasy sports and sports betting.PlayChip is looking to decentralize and incentivize the global sports betting market, which according to the company’s white paper is a whopping estimated $3 trillion annual opportunity. With an IPO coming in H1 2019 and listing on the NASDAQ and ASX big things are coming for the operational online betting platform.

Pain points aimed be solved by Playchip
While the company has identified several keys issues in the online betting industry, these two seem
to be the most significant in expanding functionality and adoption in the space:
Lack of a universal payment system:
A global solution that allows online gaming platforms to load and cash out their gaming chips using a reliable and timely mechanism for transferring funds to their current location and local currency.
Payment Lag and Transactional Security:
Too many regulatory barriers currently delay users from accessing their winnings and technology has yet to provide a seamless fix. A lot of it has to do with know-your-customer (KYC) and Anti-money laundering (AML) regulations which can be a hard problem to overcome, even in the crypto space.
Eventually, holders of the PlayChip will be able to seamlessly and instantly transfer funds between the various partner and international exchanges. This will provide a degree of control and security in a manner not seen before in online gaming.
The PlayChip Ecosystem
The PlayChip ecosystem, which is fueled by the PlayChip (PLA) token, is comprised of fantasy sports and licensed online gambling establishments as well as a PlayWallet that is scheduled to be launched in November 2018.

Players:
Any individual with a smart device can access PlayChip services from around the globe. PlayChip with a user base of over 1 million from 70 nations, has particularly high traction in India, Australia, United Kingdom, and the USA.
Partner Gaming Platform:
Online gaming providers can integrate their services into the PlayChip ecosystem. PlayChip currently has multiple gaming platforms, including recent acquisition 123bet.
Global Crypto Exchanges:
Cryptocurrency exchange partners around the world will allow players and token holders to trade PlayChip tokens and convert them into local currency. With use of PlayXchange, users link to the PlayWallet and gives users the ability to trade the PlayChip tokens.
Team and Ambassadors
The PlayChip management team has four decades of combined experience across interactive gaming and global online businesses, with CEO Daniel Simic at the helm. They are expanding far and quickly with their offices across Sydney, London, New York and Hong Kong.
